I Am Underwhelmed By Support Of Community Building — 2 Comments

  1. I think the lack of server forums could be a good thing. For the most part, the content provided by they (especially in the case of WoW) was less that worth the space in the database.

Also, some of my fondest memories of server community came from community hosted systems, not the official forums. I used to frequent forums for EQ1 servers frequently which had only a minor degree of moderation. Moving on from there and into other games, not so much because the forums weren’t commonly adopted.

    • I think server forums can be lame (as in Wow) or awesome (as in SWG). One problem with the WoW forums was the lack of accountability because you could post as any character on your roster. And when I say accountability, I don’t mean that real ID crap. I mean having a persistent identity (that is a pseudonym) so that if you are a jerk, you have to deal with the fallout of that.

The idea of off-site forums is intriguing. If someone created one of those, I’m totally there.
